Lao Ra was born in Bogota, Colombia, but shortly after completing school relocated to London. There she became ingrained in the UK music scene leading to her signing with Black Butter Records in 2016. With the success of her viral singles “Me Gusta” and “Drum Machine” she has grabbed the attention of artists in Latin, Dance, and pop markets for collaborations. Lao Ra is now based in LA and signed with Sony Latin, currently working on her next releases, recently featured on Dillon Francis’ single “White Boi” and has been synched in FIFA, VIDA, and other television network shows.

Lao Ra uses the phrase “girl power in the jungle” to explain her music – carnivalesque beats, vibrant lyrical storytelling and nods to the strong female artists who’ve inspired her journey so far, from Debbie Harry and Madonna to MIA and Gwen Stefani. She is increasingly embracing her “Colombian-ness” in her music – J Balvin, Bomba Estéreo and Shakira are all chief influences.
